I would like an account with the Ovo bank too 😀 My running rest day today. I always run early in the morning so today am taking advantage of the Economy 7 and roasting a turkey instead. |

Worth sharing this again as we move to autumn - particularly for those with combi boilers. People are familiar with their thermostat controls - and might lower these to save energy. However, you can also, in addition, adjust the operating or 'flow temperature' of the boiler. Making changes here can also cut your energy use. The thermostat affects the output temperature, whereas the flow temperature affects the input, so the boiler isn't heating up the water to such a high temperature to start with. By turning down both the heating and water dials, you could improve efficiency and save costs. theheatinghub.co.uk Many people have their boilers set to their factory default temperatures. This flow temperature may be way too high for your needs and is likely to be an inefficient way of using your boiler, particularly if you can see excess steam coming out of the boiler when in use - this is wasted energy. Thank you! My boiler needs a service... Not a combi boiler, but I will ask if we can tweak water temperature, so it doesn't get heated quite so much...

It's worth a go. If you need to add cold water to the washing up bowl or when standing under the hot shower, then you're just asking your boiler to heat up the water too much, and that's extra energy used for no reason. |

Ahhhh... My boiler only does my central heating... I thought you could tweak that too, but suppose turning down the thermostat is all you can do there.

Dropping the temp at the boiler should improve efficiency for central heating. It will also make it a bit slower to heat the house when cold, which may or may not be an issue to consider. I think a lot of temps are set high for the sake of comfort. Also, the efficiency gains aren’t really that huge, from what I’ve seen. A few percentage points perhaps. |
