My condolences Big G - it's hard supporting parents when they get to this stage in their lives. It's good you could have some conversations before the morphine took over. Take care.x

Sorry for your loss Big G. I think we all do our best in our own ways according to our situations. I hope you can be comfortable in the knowledge that you did a lot for him through his decline.

Sorry to hear of your loss Big_G. It is always hard to watch the decline in a person.
Our dad was also a very intelligent man who could turn his hand to anything. Bought a shell of a house 50 years ago and basically built the inside himself.
Clearing out this past week has shown ushe kept everything ( always thinking he would have a use for it. )

We are now just about to close the door of the house for the last time (after another run to the recycling centre lol )

I still lurk here, as I have In-Laws, but no real responsibility for them as OH does more than his bit. However, I did wonder when we get to start the thread for 'Old people with interfering relatives' for our own situations.

I’m at my mum’s at the moment. I dread the thought of decluttering the clutter! But I’m dreadful too. Thoughts are with you LG.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
