Big_G you sound as proud of him as he was of you and that’s a great memory to keep.

An interesting visit tonight. On arrival nurses said she was really happy and settled

It quickly became clear MiL was not happy and settled. She just hasn’t quite formulated her reasons.

The place itself is quite nice and MiL looked better than I have seen her in c two years. Dressed, washed, in a chair watching telly.

As we left we spoke again to the head nurse who said she has no medical care needs and no complex care they can see. They did say things could deteriorate quickly but also spoke about possibly going home with a care package or maybe a care home.

It’s a tricky situation as Mrs axe knows her mum isn’t happy and wants to be home. However she also know she is cared for, and currently at no cost.

If things stay as they are and they want MiL to go home, then there will be fun times with BiL. He refused another attempt to put differences behind us and speak today.

Things still seem so up in the air for you Baz. Just a shame BiL and Mrs Axe can’t sing from the same hymn sheet and get things straighten.

I can see what happened and why. The medical judgement was made in haste based on two events. They thought her time was up.

They are probably right about the bladder cancer but how widespread and how long she has left are pure guesswork. We are already three weeks in and there is no noticeable change in her.

I’m not surprised Baz - sounds dreadful!

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
