We did modern method of auction. The solicitors were a bit stressed, but the house went no problem.

We've just had the phone call from long term care for MIL. All systems go now!

She has a place in a home in Pembroke that she has to accept tomorrow. She moves into the place on Friday morning! Papers will be signed tomorrow.

Thanks all - it's going to take her a while to get used to a new place, having been in a hospital for the last few months. On the plus side, when we're over next month to do the house clearing, we'll have somewhere to take her clothes for the various seasons of the year and she should have room for them all. All extras can be donated.

Power of Attorney now in place for mum, both financial and welfare, if needed. While it took 10 months for them to action, once they did the couple of corrections that were needed they dealt with quickly and smoothly. So can't complain. Ironically, mum's doing OK at the mo! :-) G

It’s a year today for dad already. I do think it’s been a quick a year.

Hope it's not too difficult a day for you LG.

Good to hear that she's doing well Happy. Hope that continues to be the case.

Helpful timing Garfield. Hope she settles in quickly.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
