Sorry to hear there’s been a delay Lizzie. I hope the operation happens soon and is successful.

Thanks. I think I’m fine with things but I’m having stressy dreams and waking up tired and with a headache so maybe not as good as I think. There’s other stuff going on that makes it more complicated.

My Great-Aunt is being quite vile at the moment. Her house insurance has lapsed and we now need to find a specialist to cover the house as she isn't there. I called her previous insurers last week and because she wouldn't answer them when they asked if I could be allowed to deal with the insurance they had to take it as a 'No'. Which is fair enough. But she seems to think I should have all the time in the world to take her wherever she wants to go and to do whatever she wants to do, and I am trying to pick up more work now that mom has gone.

I feel absolutely awful that I am not helping her as much as I possibly could but she is never ever grateful for any help, is more concerned about what wasn't done rather than what was managed and doesn't seem to realise that what she feels may be a quick task will actually take 2-3hrs or more as she has to be taken out in a wheelchair and transported around.

I hate feeling horrible about this but I visit her every week. Nobody else does. And she's even unhappy I am going away for a week too :(

Sorruy - just needed to vent!

That's what this thread is for, Vixx.

I think you do loads. And people are not automatically entitled to care and support just because they are family. And you don't have to put up with being treated in a way that makes you feel crap. People reap what they sow.

Vixx, she should be bloody grateful you are taking the time to do things for her. Don’t ever feel guilty. Like LindsD says it’s not a god given right that your family have to do the looking after especially if there are others who have already stopped.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
