Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Is Makaton the same as baby signing? If so, I know loads of signs. I somehow thought they were different. Not sure why.

I've not done baby signing but when I learned Manaton it was described as augmented communication. The hand gestures there to help someone who had difficulty with words. Which is why the hand movement should be done with the spoken word, I think.

My Newt for today was spotting some daffodils in full bloom when I was out on my run this morning. It was icy cold so lovely to spot signs of spring. It cheered me up so much I paused my run to take a photo of them. 😀

Yes the Makaton instructor yesterday said it uses the signs of BSL but it is essential to say the words too and you don't use 'small' words so if I was saying Where is my book I would say all the words but the 'sign' is just for Where not is or are. Mind you I had two or three hours of learning so I need to keep going to remember any of it I think.

That's lovely Ness! I saw my first pink blossom of the year today on my way back from dropping SweetPea at college. The daffs on the verges are not quite out yet, but you can just see the yellow through the buds

I was surprised how well on these were, WA. I think being sheltered by a wall must help....

We're a lot further on here on the south coast - daffs have been out for a while, though mainly the smaller varieties, others are catching up fast.

The blackthorn is out - I love seeing it.

I was forgetting that, Sharkie. When I was teaching if I went to the coast for the February half term or Easter I was often surprised how much further on the spring flowers were. I will have to look out for spring blossom round here too. 😀

I can't comment about maketon, but I know the grammar/sentence structure for BSL is different. I know how to sign some parkrun phrases so the RD would say 'one dog on a short lead' whereas in BSL signs it would be 'dog one only lead short'.

I think it's great there seems to be renewed interest in both Maketon and BSL

I love that one person’s newt has led to some newt learning for everyone.

About This Thread

Most of you know the score. Much in the bizarre way Easter has come to mean Chocolate, Lent is mainly thought of as an opportunity to Give Up Chocolate. At least until Easter. You know what I mean, 'What are you giving up for Lent?' * I say NO to this. Away with the hair shirts and the deprivation. Let's embrace change and the NEW. Spring is a time of renewal - and restoration.

Soooooo..... you don't have to take up indoor sky diving like my partner's 90 year old mot...
