Most of you know the score. Much in the bizarre way Easter has come to mean Chocolate, Lent is mainly thought of as an opportunity to Give Up Chocolate. At least until Easter. You know what I mean, 'What are you giving up for Lent?' * I say NO to this. Away with the hair shirts and the deprivation. Let's embrace change and the NEW. Spring is a time of renewal - and restoration.
Soooooo..... you don't have to take up indoor sky diving like my partner's 90 year old mother - although she is a brilliant example of someone who looks forward and is always ready for a New Thing. Learning a language or playing a musical instrument are great newts - but we welcome all sorts of new ways of looking at things, first 'spots' this year - 'Look, the Blackthorn is out and it is beautiful'.
Listen to the birdies, do a different walk or run or ride. Cut your hair, chuck stuff away creating light and space. There are endless possibilities and every year Fetchies have come up with brilliant and inspiring ideas. DOING is paramount, intentions are just intentions and don't count.
There will be a Newt of the Day every day. I pick the first one (on Thursday) and the picker picks from then on.
We start in earnest tomorrow, the first day of Lent, and run 'til Easter Sunday-ish. Join the gang and have a think today. Am in tearing hurry to get to Charing Cross (or Caring Bears as we call it) so this is a bit rushed. Back later.
*Interestingly this is just the way it's gone. Lent was traditionally a time for reflection and change - AL touches on this in her 25 Feb blog 'Trying to think of some NEWTS...' She writes: 'In my childhood, when my Dad was still a vicar, he often used to encourage this approach to Lent - not to see it as a period of deprivation to be endured, but a chance to review and reflect on things - and make positive changes.' Whole blog well worth reading.

Hurrah! I’ve already got my first newt on order and it should lead to some other newts. I have started this year with a newt working pattern that gives me opportunities. I shall be embracing the thread this year.
Thanks Sharkie.

I'm not sure I'll have a NEWT every day but I will be popping in to see what others are doing because it is always so positive and a lovely part of spring. Thanks for starting the thread, Sharkie.

Yay Newts The sun is shining and Princess Pink came out of hibernation this morning
I shall declare my season-long newt now. I am going to do press-ups on at least six days each week (I'm giving myself a pass for race days). Because just after Easter I have a marathon and I want my shoulders to JINGLE in a racing vest, and at the moment they are things of pathetic flaccidity. I started yesterday with 4 sets of 15.
Others will follow.

I like your style V-rap - and your words ‘season-long newt’ are a good reminder that newts can be instant minutes or indeed sticking to a new thing for a limited or unlimited time.
We don’t have to go mad trying to find something different every day. But then again that’s where noticing stuff and appreciating changes comes in.
Let the light in, there’s more every day.

My newt is our new look sitting room, it has started today with the walls being plastered, we are currently banished to the kitchen and have no Internet.
