I did read somewhere recently (sorry, I've read so much that I cannot remember where I read anything any more!) that the Polio vaccination actually had a positive impact on many different viral infections. So is it used as a general "antiviral" does anyone know? Or is it just a happy side effect we've not investigated much?

I've just had a memo to say that any patient having blood tested for any reason can be offered a COVID-19 antibody test to see if they've been infected.

Health care workers? They'll get round to offering us antibody tests sometime, watch this space but don't hold your breath. (I will take it up if offered but will be surprised if I show evidence of previous infection.)

Some of our staff have had the antibody test. The vast majority have tested positive despite being asymptomatic. I'm hoping to get tested next time the people come round.

Eldest's work provided them the finger prick antibody test (not considered accurate enough for general NHS use) only one tested positive out of over 100 and he'd not had any symptoms. They're getting a different one soon. Think this must be part of some sort of trial.

Is there any evidence yet to say that a positive antibody test confers immunity?

My workplace is trialling antibody testing this week. Only 50 tests initially though. They are also continuing with the Trustwide swabbing programme.

@Vrap is that something that is specific to your practice, about 80% sure J had CV end of March. I had no symptoms (slight sore throat for a couple of days when he was ill) but I’m due a routine yearly blood test soon.

I’d be happy to form a queue after those that need the test more btw!

We are instructed to advise patients with a positive antibody test that they should NOT assume they are immune.

It may be specific to my locality, ndellar, but I suspect it is, or soon will be, nationwide.
