What do we think about the 10pm curfew for pubs and restaurants? Draconian edicts curtailing our civil liberties or insufficient restriction failing to control the virus spread?

It depends what overall package of restrictions is going to be announced. It could be a very odd standalone embargo or could make sense in the big picture.

Better to wait until the PM gives details.

Fragile Do Not Bend
I can see it making a difference in the sort of pub where people go on drinking until the small hours, but from a personal point of view I can’t remember the last time I was in a pub or restaurant later than about 9pm

Might go to Politics because I think my question is more about the policy, as I think it's insufficient, and can't see why it would affect people in this thread much?
V'rap, best wishes for you Mum, sorry didn't mention previously. G

If 10pm means a couple less pints and people go home slightly more sober and slightly more socially distanced then it can make a tiny difference. Would probably make more difference in reminding people that coronavirus is still out there and limits on our activities are still being put in place so if you don't want the pub to be shut all together it's maybe a good idea to keep socially distanced in the other non drunken activities that you get up to during the day as well, like don't go round to you mates house, keep your distance from work colleagues where possible during the day and wear a mask when in enclosed spaces with others.
Minimal impact on the activity of drinking, but bigger phycological impact on how people behave otherwise...maybe.

B Rubble
I think it's actually fairly sensible G. Most pubs & restaurants stop serving food at 9pm so to clear the punters who behave out by 10pm should be about right. It's difficult for them to deal with rowdy clients, like the ones I saw on my holiday last month that decided to push the appropriately distanced tables together so they could be next to each other. Positively Darwinian!
I do think it could probably change in the next few weeks as we move into the 400+ deaths a day and strain on the NHS.
Should this be on the discussion thread?

What I’m hearing up north is the 10om curfew is spreading to street and house parties they will find a way.
Personally if I’m not heading home by 10pm I’d turn into a pumpkin! So again those of us doing the right thing will keep doing the right thing without interaction with our loved ones while the covidiots will continue to be tw@ts. Sorry so angry it’s making me very sad.

Good point B Rub - maybe it sends the message that going out and getting trollied, big nights out isn't on. I don't think so though. I think people who want to have a big night out will just start earlier, move to houses later etc. Hmm. Doesn't affect most people on this thread, because we are daytime, evening, eating and sensible drinking sort of age and stage, I guess.
Just to say hope everyone is as well as can be in these difficult times.
