Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Can they do a 'deep clean' that lasts a year?
But similarly, hearing that the cleaning needed between patients is as long, if not longer, than the treatment. So on a time basis, not unreasonable. But I suspect many of us will be querying the 'every 6 months' and moving to 9 or 12 months?

I stopped going to the dentist a long time ago as their pricing for doing not much was not worth it. Quick look. All ok. Make another appt and pay on your way out. Next.

I did change to another dentist and from there I paid less but ended up with an old filling being replaced that I suspect didn’t need done.

Yes um, she did mention the fact that they couldn’t see as many patients as normal per day due to needing to leave 20 minutes between appointments. It’s sounding a lot of money for the customer to pick up and I’m already thinking I’ll be changing to annual rather than 6 monthly check ups.

Some years ago, my dentist did work across 2 rooms, with 2 'assistants'.
At least for the check ups. The assistant would greet you, seat you, get you prepped etc.
He'd walk in, check you (about 2-4 mins), and leave the assistant to usher you out, get the next patient in etc. While he did a similar check in the other room.
Did mean he doubled his productivity, takings etc.

I wonder if he (and hygienist) still have 'spare' and maintained treatment rooms.

Interesting re dentist. My dentist always did use PPE. He wore scrubs, sometimes plastic apron over, a mask and a plastic face shield. I can't see that they'd be buying much more than they were previously. I think a lot of people will be rethinking visiting. I wonder if the NHS dental fees will go up as well? I get cover through my work but for those on low incomes and paying NHS fees (which are still high) any hike will most likely stop them attending at all - a huge step back.

LMH - not good that yours/OH’s employers are pushing you to say in the assessment form that you work space set up is fine even if it isn’t.

I only have 12 monthly check ups at the dentist anyway - usually very quick and dentist tells me all is well, just see the hygienist, who then makes you feel like your teeth are awful. The hygienist appointment is expensive enough as it is, if it doubles in price at my practice I can see me either going less frequently or not bothering at all.

mum has to take a huge anti biotics dose (a drink as tablets don't give enough) as protection before she sees the dentist and as you can only take it every so many weeks they have to do everything at once.

Apparently it's really bad news if whilst they are prodding her gums bleed and any kind of infection gets in to the blood stream. Could damage her heart? Had to do this for years not only since having her heart value replaced. So she has always been very keen to get her teeth checked regularly and was due just before lockdown. I think it will be one of the first things she does
