Guardian now says covid jab won't be available privately at all: theguardian.com I wonder if this is a sustainable position. |

That's really disappointing. I wonder if it's a regulatory thing. Otherwise why wouldn't you? Private flu jabs have been available for decades.

Yeah it's nuts, given that covid is (functionally) like a fairly bad flu (I know technically it's a different family of viruses). I half wonder if it's just that they haven't yet allowed it, and may get round to it. The guardian article does seem like it could be extrapolating a bit, rather than reporting a specific decision. |

JCVI has made a recommendation gov.uk but the govt has still to announce whether it will do this, or something else.

The guardian article explicitly states that the govt has accepted the advice.

I'm hoping my advancing years and immunosuppression will finagle me in (but I somehow doubt it). Assuming I'm still in a job, I'll probably be able to get the flu jab through work. given that covid is (functionally) like a fairly bad flu I'd dispute that characterisation. My immunosuppression means that - despite vaccination - I end up getting flu most years (sometimes mild, sometimes bad). The acute stage of covid was far, far worse than the worst flu that I've ever experienced. And I'm still suffering from the damage that covid did to me, over 3 years later. I've never experienced that with flu. |

I'd expect those wit underlying health conditions who would qualify for the flu jab pre-Covid despite being under 65 would still get it Andy.
