Ah the podcast explains why it's possibly her best book! And I'm convinced. It was the author's own favourite one (which I think is often a good indicatiopn). But the opening passage they read is an absolute lyrical joy. I too am beguiled by flat landscapes. Not that I see any in Cornwall.

I've just realised that this is *not* the book that inspired the Will Smith film!

*feels dim and slightly cheated* ;-)

Good call Night-owl

Calling Maclennane we need a May poll (ha ha ha) to choose between one of these estimable possible choisees what haven't choisissed yet.

Grepples
Fetch
The Scribbler
Bint
Dio
Quimby
McGoohan
Westmoors

Once more if the idea of choosing a book in May is anathema to you, please speak up

Ah, I just bought one on Kindle today (99p today) that I think might be good. I enjoyed Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, but I suspect many of us may have already read one so recently popular, so I'm going to choosinate an older one of hers. My choice is:

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry
by
Gabrielle Zevin

I have a couple of quotes from the 1 star reviews on Amazon (other book vendors are available and we should use them):

"this did not solve the debate over slowing e-readers vs the survival of the brick and mother bookstore"
"Certainly there cannot be a worse book"
