Ah the podcast explains why it's possibly her best book! And I'm convinced. It was the author's own favourite one (which I think is often a good indicatiopn). But the opening passage they read is an absolute lyrical joy. I too am beguiled by flat landscapes. Not that I see any in Cornwall.

I've just realised that this is *not* the book that inspired the Will Smith film! *feels dim and slightly cheated* |

Ah, I just bought one on Kindle today (99p today) that I think might be good. I enjoyed Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, but I suspect many of us may have already read one so recently popular, so I'm going to choosinate an older one of hers. My choice is: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin I have a couple of quotes from the 1 star reviews on Amazon (other book vendors are available and we should use them): "this did not solve the debate over slowing e-readers vs the survival of the brick and mother bookstore" "Certainly there cannot be a worse book" |
