Took my heart rate monitor out cycling today to see what effect training was having. Very hard to get heart rate above 120bpm no matter how hard I cycled, though it reached 130 going up a hill, out of the saddle. My aerobic (steady) zone starts at about 138, so cycling today hardly touched the sides, as far as aerobic fitness goes. Is cycling done in the "fat burning Zone", or when my legs get stronger will I go faster and my average heart rate go up? I'm still very new to cycling as training, only started seriously about three weeks ago.

Cycling is my first sport but I still enjoy running for when times short or the bikes broken.

Don't get my bike until middle next week now as they are behind on orders :-( Off to Evans later though to get some reflectors and lights so I am all set when it comes. However, did cycle with the children at 'Cycling for All' round our track a bit earlier on. I had Wills on an adapted bike with two fromt wheels and one back and a seat on the front for him. He loved it but we only did it for 20 mins or so as he got really cold. Will post some pics later.

Hann - I think I'm in agreement with you, I definitely prefer cycling more at the moment, I don't get quite so many injuries as I do from running!
