My daughter has schwable marathon cross tyre that have a reflective strip around the sides so they get picked up if you are sideways on to to the lights. It's a good all round tyre and comes in 26" and 28" (700c).

I got some reflective tape from cyberglow.co.uk and wrap it around the top tube, and forks - so I can be seen from the side at roundabouts. It's not sticky but you can tape it back on itself and squash it down with your lock or the battery pack from your lights.

I've also got one of the triangular belts - I was thinking about the sort with flashing LEDs too - but then I stopped riding to work (moved house). I love the idea of reflective sidewalls :-)

Climbing a hill. Years ago I received three very good pieces of advice regarding going up a hill.
1. Don't sit down for the whole climb, don't stand up for the whole climb.
2. Ride past the top of the hill. Keep pedalling beyond the crest to help get rid of lactate.
3. Keep your heart rate down to get better at it.

Standing up from time to time lets you use different muscles and lets others rest. if only for a few seconds.
It lets you use those super strong muscles in your lower back. And then gives your arms and shoulders something to do.
It also makes you a better bike handler.

Watch some pros do it. Marco Pantani used to climb standing up, holding on to he drops. Looked very odd, but very effective. Or Contador, Armstrong, Rasmussen. They all do it. It's not just for effect or to attack. It can be for a rest.

By the way, my second link from last night was for the Ibis Mojo. Bang it into Google. Blue, I reckon.

Inner Tubes.

My tyres are 700x28. The options according to Wiggle are... 700x20-28 or 700x28-38. So, do I just pick one? Is there any reason to go for one size over the other?

The more you pump a tyre up the thinner the tube will be. Ime i'd go for the 28-38 but if you want lighter weight go for the 20-28.

I'm liking the side reflective talk as I was nearly wiped out twice last night.

You could light yourself up like a christmas tree and some muppet will still try to take you out. Their's just certain people out there who should never be allowed behind a wheel.

I find that the more I kitted myself out with reflective gear the worse it got! When I bought a reflective vest I got hit by a car twice in one week, while perviously I had never been hit while cycling in London for almost 10 years... So I stuck the bib in the car and never wore it again!
