Gooner, it might be worth investigating whether your employer takes part in the cycle to work scheme.

Yes. I've bought all my bikes through that.

The Boardman is probably quite good quality - the article is more about the £75 bike from a supermarket and graduations from there up. £400 or £500 gets a really good bike. £700 or £900 isn't necessary in the same way that a Kia is a fine car but a Merc or a BMW can be nicer to drive.

Sadly, my very wealthy, international company do not deem it worthy of their efforts, along with a lot of other things they should! The missus' do but you have to buy the bike for yourself and your own commute so that's a no go too. Thanks for the advice folks, appreciate it. |

They don't check, Gooner. I have three bikes and commute on one. Oh got one on his scheme for his son. You just have to sign to say it's for you. If you don't mind lying, that is.

After some more advice, oh kind and helpful Fetchies... I have had a second puncture in my rear tyre and as they're very old anyway, I'm going to replace them both. The problem I have is the size, I went to Halfords and decathlon yesterday and neither had anything close so I'm wondering if I can use a different size? I currently have 28x1.75/700x47c on but am only seeing narrower tyres about, would I be ok going for these or would the not fit the rim? I have a Voodoo Marasa Hybrid from about 2011. Any advice appreciated. |

So there are! Thanks for that. Would I be able to get away with a slimmer tyre though or is it best to stick what came with the bike?
