Absolutely not, old girl. My mate Frans-Bauke's even offered to source one for her...

best bet to get a Gazelle is to take a trip to holland on the ferry, foot passengers fares are quite reasonable. Mini-break and cheap bike.

Things that will cause the chain to come off the front.

- mech cage moves to far out (if chain falls off the outside of the ring when changing up) or too far in (chain falls off the inner ring when changing down). (I'm assuming you don't have a triple chainset as I wouldn;t wish to question your hetero-sexuality) This is adjusted by the two small cross head screws on the mech. Turning them IN (ie tightening them) will limit the distance the mech moves. Turning them out will increase the distance the mech can move. Only adjust them 1/4 turn at a time, and adjust them one at a time, then ride to see if the problem has been fixed. Worth trying tweaking them on the road if you carry a multi-tool.

- mech set too high on the seat-tube. When the mech is moved out to that the outside face of the cage is directly over the teeth of the outer chainring, there should be a vertical gap of only a millimetre or so between the lower edge of the cage and the top of the teeth on the chainring

- mech rotated around the seat-tube. You'll notice this if, when you look down, the cage seems to be sitting at much of an angle to the chain when you are on the top chainring and in a high gear....it should be 'nearly' parallel. This is the least significant problem causer - tends to cause slightly slow shifting and odd rubbing noises rather than chucking the chain all the way off.

The first possibility is the first thing to try.

Your ahem-friend's MTB would be perfectly normal. Now if your ahem-friend had a triple on his road bike...

Where is AJPAR this week, btw?

Sorry, J-Dog. ~adopts soothing tone~ triples are *fine*. Crying at the cinema's fine. Having a complete box set of Sex-in-the-city is fine...
