Hello bike people - may I ask a question?

Thanks

My MTB (GT Aggressor 3) basically sat outside under partial cover at my ex's house untouched for over 2 years. I got it back, and this week have been tidying it up - cleaning, lubing etc. Took it out yesterday for a little spin to see how it was, and it has survived pretty well, apart from needing new pedals as the originals had totally rusted up.

I of course had to inflate the tyres, which I did so to the stated max less 10% (google told me that was about right). All good.

Near home, I stopped on the beach for a drink and to soak up the sun for 15 minutes, then as I went to leave, noticed the rear tyre was completely flat. D'oh. So this morning I've taken the wheel off and checked the inner tube. There's a tiny wee hole in it, basically along the line of the inside of the wheel where the rubber strip is. Know what I mean?

Question is - is this likely to be caused by natural degradation of the inner tube rubber, or something more sinister? I've checked the wheel and the inside of the tyre and there are no obvious sharp points. I essentially want to know if a new inner tube would suffice, or whether something more remedial is required.

I really ought to buy a helmet today too, and a nicer saddle cos the stock one is actually made of barbed wire and concrete.

Cheers :)
