Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I will shut up abut black treacle/ molasses in a minute. I probably should write a blog about it instead (think I already have tbh)

This is my favourite version
shop.meridianfoods.co.uk

This - with iconic tin - is the childhood and sometimes all that's available version
sainsburys.co.uk

Next to lemons it's probably my favourite cooking ingredient -not only in chocolate cakes and brownies for depth of flavour, but also in savoury stuff like chili and mole sauces, and is great on lamb shoulder (get me!)

I bought my oatmeal from H&B. My recipe makes a good deep Parkin in an 8" tin.

I used to love treacle and would happily eat it in a sandwich on white bread as a kid.

These days we prefer molasses over treacle, and only use it in baking. Though I do rinse out the jar into porridge. In theory I do that to avoid wastage (I rinse out all jars into something), but it is a special treat too!

It appears I'm getting a reputation. In fairness there is gravy in the fridge "for emergencies" ;-)

Reputation, or infamy? ;)

Emergency gravy sounds amazing.
