Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

You lot are a bad influence. I baked Parkin today. Going to try my apple pie muffins in the air fryer later.

Parkin in the oven. No chance it won't be half gone this time tomorrow. Kitchen smells lovely.

I've also started to make a Christmas pudding. Don't tell me I'm much too late! One of the best I've ever eaten was the year my Mam checked the pudding a couple of days before Christmas, found it had gone mouldy, and got on and made a fresh one. It will be alcohol free, so I don't need all those weeks of tipping booze into it (or is that Christmas cake?).

A large jar of mincemeat has appeared after the last Tesco trip. I don't like mince pies. But I was happy to learn that the purchaser will be doing some jam tarts for me when he makes his pies.

I had mince pie treacle tart last week, just a layer of mincemeat in the centre of the filling. It was at a very nice local restaurant that does miniature deserts. Also Christmas pudding bread and butter pudding - chunks of Christmas pud mixed in. I am tempted to recreate it.

*desserts even. They may have had a sand pit in the children's play area but it was far too cold and wet to investigate.

Great uses for mincemeat: Delia's mincemeat cake; A thin layer of mincemeat between apple & crumble; replacing the date layer in date slice; replacing the jam layer in Fetch flapjack...
