Thanks for the Parkin advice - mine is a pretty old recipe from when lard was more common in baking and uses half lard, half butter, so all butter it will be. OH has just gone to collect our order - edge of the seat time to see if the black treacle made it

My kids have had a spell of scone making recently, and very good they’ve been too. A friend who we gave some to (from a social distance) said they were genuinely the best he’d ever had.

Me and my littlest have been doing baking as part of her homeschooling. So far she’s made scones, oat biscuits, empire biscuits, fruit cake and jam tarts. It’s no wonder I’m not losing any weight, dammit!!

Hells Bells - I make parkin all the time. I like it dark and very treacly. I use molasses (no half and half with golden syrup here) My mum used 'Spry' vegetable fat but I use butter, 50grms I think.

Your scones are all too white! They need some wholemeal flour in them, and maybe a few rolled oats. Also raisins.

... unless they are cheese.
Then they need brown flour, mustard powder, chilli and black pepper. And cheese.
Does everybody put egg in scones, always?
