Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Two lovely lots of scones :)

I don't put egg in scones and mine have sultanas in.

My recipe (from an old hand me down cookery book belonging to Stef) didn’t have salt and I think I’d add some if I make scones again. Where was something slightly underwhelming about them (mind I can take or leave whipped cream)

Me too, which is weird given my otherwise rampant sweet tooth.

Scones need clotted cream rather than whipped - but I actually prefer butter and damson jam on mine

We had strawberry jam, which isn’t my favourite. I think salty butter with raspberry or even apricot would have been better

I’m finding most jams too sweet for me, so I’m just putting the tiniest drop on my cream

Jacdaw - I agree re scone mix additions. And no I never put egg in scones (because only recipes I’ve ever used haven’t had egg in them, so to me the idea that you would even think about putting egg in a scone mix is a bit odd)

And to eat my preference is just butter (salted) on fresh out the oven scones (cheese or fruit by choice) so the butter melts straight away. I can quite happily snaffle a tray of scones away in this fashion without even realising it..!

LindsD - what ‘was’ LittleD supposed to be doing when she made the scones?! - assuming she’s like my (barely still teenagers) two, if they’re making nice things either they’ve done something they shouldn’t have done or should be doing something else :-)

Made the ‘mistake’ of having fresh sourdough coming out of the oven just before lunch today, so the youngest and I have pretty much consumed a loaf of still warm fresh bread, butter, cheese and salad for lunch... WFH food coma this afternoon :-)
