Nice looking sourdough. I cheated for yesterday's attempt and added a ½tsp of dried yeast. Baked it for the first 15 min with a foil cover too, and then without but with a water bath in the oven. Seems to have come out OK, at last. A bit like a large ciabatta.

No pictures though, as I've been out for a long bike ride and eaten nearly half already pig

The scones were actually REALLY good, despite my suspicion about using an egg. They rose well but needed longer than the 10-12 mins suggested; this might because I had my oven at 200 instead of 220 (it can be a bit fierce). I also added a little more flour as they seemed a bit wet but that might be because I halved the recipe and misjudged how much half an egg is. Recipe: jamesmartinchef.co.uk

Lemon drizzle cake: I managed to burn it (trying to do too many things in too short a time!) so OH cut the top off. The recipe (4 butter / 4 sugar / 2 eggs / 5 flour / 1tsp baking powder / 2tbsp milk, whisk it all in a bowl together for 2 mins) couldn't be easier and always gives a good result.

Brownies - not pictured but I probably overcooked them - which made for a pleasant cake rather than a squidgy brownie!

Daughter decided that, cheese or no cheese, scones need raspberry jam.

Nice spread sk. I think Mary Berry uses an egg in her scones.

My new sourdough starter was ready yesterday and Raffo baked. despite my misgivings about H&B rather than Doves rye flour, the process had worked and the pain de campagne style loaf tastes fab. Looks wise it's a bit flat - rather like the not quite rightness of the first pancake. Half the loaf has been frozen and the other half is fast disappearing- as is my last batch of parkin.

One small piece here - the nice shiny top spoiled by me squashing it in a too small container.
