Best tip from me would be to change to polo shirts rather than ironed shirts. They are smart (sort of) and will survive the rucksack to work. spare pair of shoes at work.

I sometimes run to and from work to do a double (1.6 mile journey but usually do the "scenic" 5K route) - my top tip is to have a spare pair of pants and socks in your work drawer - would be bad to forget either of them....

It's great to see so many people run commuting!
Some friends and I started a blog last year that may answer a lot of the questions people have about running to and from work. You can find us at http://theruncommuter.net. We have a handful of contributors and guests who post helpful tips, gear reviews, stories from the road, etc.
For those interested in beginning, check out our How To Get Started posts, which can be found on the blog's sidebar. Maybe you want to write a guest post telling us about your run commute with pictures and text. Great! Send me a message through the Contact Us! tab at the top.

Hi JRW. Welcome to Fetch posting. Hope you stick around on here (i.e. not just an ad for your website, good as it may be!) Thanks for the link! Cheers, :-)G

I have done it a couple of times the problem is that its 16 miles one way. In summer I might park up half way or closer if I can find somewhere.

I have no option to wear shirt/tie. Take shirts in on Thursday (run in on Fri and Mon only at the moment as I don't need transport home) and everything is in a sports holdall, but this means the shirts are folded.
Is there anything I've not thought about that might help me out of my predicament (ie give me uncrumpled shirts?) I have a desk, and a chair, with plenty of space underneath, but nothing else explicitly personal "storage".

It's the only way I can run silly mileages and stay married!
I'm also in the fortunate position of having access to a hot shower at work (albeit a rank, moldering one) and a locker to store sweaty kit in. We've also got a decent blower in the men's locker room which seems to dry kit quite effectively throughout a 12 hour shift. Febreze is a godsend as it's not only the women who can get precious about aromas
I've got a Decathlon Raidlight 10 ltr rucksack which copes admirably with clean shirts, trousers and underwear (footwear stays at work) plus smartphone, ID cards etc.
If you're willing to be flexible you can have quality sessions into your commute (fartleks, intervals etc) and it's a great mental conditioner having to dragg your sorry @rse out of a warm bed at 4:30am and out into a pitch black, wet and windy January morning

i run home but no to work - 8 miles for me could do with it being a tad further with needing to average 8.2 per day this year.
