Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I have a couple of backpack-style water bottle carriers, one a fairly pricey Camelbak and the other a cheapie from Amazon. Both are beginning to reek of stale sweat.

I can't see any washing instrux on them but I can just put them through the washing machine, yes? Delicate cycle at 30 or 40 degrees?

I soak mine in diluted Gymwash detergent then rinse. White vinegar would also work. Doubt the washing machine would kill them but I just find it easier to do this.

I was them on the delicate cycle in the machine - just make sure you've checked for bits that need removed first like card/plastic back panels

I wash my salomon one in the washing machine in a large garment bag to stop the straps getting tangled on stuff.

Right then. I shall try them in a pillow case and if that's not good enough I'll invest in a dobie bag.

Many thanks to all.

As a single man I manage household talks reasonably well but I do occasionally need some advice from a domestic goddess.

Sigh
I kept the bladder from my hydration backpack in the freezer when not in use, right from the start. I also keep any plastic water bottles (e.g. bike bottles) there too. Freezing them stops them getting whiffy.

They went through the machine on the quickie 20-minute cycle at 30 degrees, in an old pillow case. Both are now minus the salt streaks and have acquired an aroma of pine glade or wildflower meadow or whatever. Success.

I don't use bladders but appreciate the reminder to keep plastic bottles/flasks in the freezer.

Got something to say?
