Ultra Kazzaaaaah!!
Could do with the occasional commuter run but running through unknown streets in East London on my own doesn't fill me with a great deal of glee unf

For lunches, pack things in plastic bags and push the air out before sealing them. This goes for sandwiches, crackers, cookies, vegetables, etc. I tried taking crackers in one day in a hard plastic, tupperware-like container and when I opened it, I had nothing to eat but crumbs :o).

I just moved to a flat about 3 miles from work and want to start running to/from the office a few days a week so I'm glad I found this thread. I've just ordered that clothes folder thing that Binks recommended - looks perfect.

A quick question.. what about when it's really wet - does anyone use a waterproof cover over their pack?

London Nici
I have a Nike Cheyenne Vapor running backpack that has a cover that is attached which goes over it when it's raining but rolls up and goes in its own compartment when its not. The pack itself is ok with light drizzle and only use the cover when its heavy. The zips are great as they are sealed when closed so no rain going through the teeth. Has waist and chest strap. Lots of compartments and fully adjustable. I advise some trial runs getting it adjusted to your fit before going off on a big one. LAso jump around in it to make sure its snug. Took me about 4 runs to get the straps right.

I have not described it very well .. think of a rain coat with the hood rolled up in the collar when not in use ....

I have a Brompton bag that came with a super-wateproof cover. If it's raining I put all the stuff in the rucksack inside that and that inside the rucksack. I've also used a carrier bag, too.

I quite like the look of that Nici - laptop pouch is ideal.

I wrap everything in my bag in plastic bags. That seems to work fine. It actually doesn't rain that hard that often.

I have recently started running to work, I just use a regular Karrimor backpack that's just big enough to sling my laptop and some clean clothes in. Nothing that's specially make for runners. I keep shoes in my drawer, and tend to run 2 or 3 miles from the station to the office, dump my bag and then do another few miles round the park before work (mostly because I love seeing the squirrel monkeys!).

I'm quite lucky that my work provide towels and shower gel/deodorant and stuff but if yours don't just leave a towel in your drawer during the week :-)

I'm not sure how I'm going to fair with doing this in the winter though, usually I just run in in the morning and walk back to the station in the evening. That might prove problematic when it's -5, snowing and I've not bought a coat!

It it's raining I put all my crap in a carrier bag before putting it in the backpack, it's worked ok so far. Top tip - keep a couple of pairs of clean pants/socks and a bra (if you're a lady!) in your drawer because I can't even remember the number of times I've forgotten these over the last few weeks!!!

Also, what Wine Legs said. I remember when they first started promoting the Boris bikes, there were loads of posters all around London going on about how it hardly ever rains here because we have our only little micro climate from all the tall buildings and concrete or something.

With regards to the waterproof cover thing, I was mainly thinking about my laptop. It's my main computer both at work and at home, so I'll be lugging it back and forth every day.
