I discovered the disadvantage of taking my shoes off between climbs when I had to rescue one from the mouth of a spaniel!

If you *have* to take your shoes off between climbs - they are too small!! :)

I find leaving them on can make walking around the crag lethal - the edges stick well to rock, or smear nicely, but touch a patch of grass or greasy rock with the midfoot whilst wandering around and you'll be over!

I also find mine squeeze very differently with the load through the toes compared to more on the heel when walking around, so are comfortable and confidence inspiring on the a climb but less so off the rock.

If your shoes aren't too small, you can't climb hard enough stuff. Some might say ;-)

Grr - just been to try a lunchtime climb at the Bristol Climbing Centre with a mate who's a novice, and they were unwilling to let me coach from the wall. I need a third climber/guinea-pig - grrr.

Anyone here likely to be climbing, or want to climb in Bristol during a lunch break and need a climbing partner?

Shuffle yourself some 300 miles north and I'm your dinosaur, FF ;)

I'd be wary of coaching a proper novice from the wall. It might be worth booking an instructor to coach and belay both of you for an hour. We've always found that paying for instructor time has been well worth the money.

Or just grab random people from groups of more than two and ask them to climb while you coach your mate.

Don't tempt me V - mini-FF has already complained that we don't have any plans to go to the Lakes this year - otherwise I'd see you at the Keswick CC.

I'm pretty confident at coaching (done it before), and value my neck - so would be making damn sure he could catch a fall and lower carefully before I went too high.
The wall people claimed their insurance demanded this approach - naturally I was tempted to debate/negotiate - but in the end they need to be 100% happy with who they let in.
The wall was dead today, just one other person bouldering - slightly surprised they didn't offer to do an ad-hoc lesson - but I thought of that option on the way back to the office.

Grumpy now :-(

Any advice on summer climbing clothes? It's starting to get very hot over here and I don't know what trousers/shorts to wear. Would some cheap yoga-ish trousers be okay?
