I wear thin hiking shorts and a vest in summer, and show off my bruised knees. Can't imagine climbing in big skateboardery climbing kecks.

At the moment I'm wearing jogging bottoms I've had for a few years and they're fine in winter but now feel like they're made from fleece. Shorts may be the way to go! Glad to hear I'm not the only one with perpetually bruised legs!

Re: vests. At our climbing wall only the super muscley, high grade men wear vests, it seems to be some sort of unspoken rule.

I'm wearing running tights or capris and a teeshirt. It's not quite shorts weather yet here.

I tend to wear longish stretchy trousers in summer - shorts just tend to increase the number of grazes on my shin!

Have had the last 2 -3 months pretty much off climbing completely due to ankle problems.... except for a traverse of the Cuillin, that is! Excellent practice for the Alps next month and helped prove to myself that I've not forgotten how to do it.

FF - not sure how you could coach a novice while climbing. How are you going to be able to properly observe their belay technique etc?

My brother came to visit and we went bouldering in a beautiful Alpine valley near Turin. It was so fun!
