Got my 1st 70+ WAVA today - 5Km in 00:20:57. Flat course & bouncy shoes.
Now need to do it longer distance races...

I'm off the mark for 2021 73.2% for the Mad March Virtual 4k today. It was only a solo time trial, but the course I chose was an honest one (I have a handy 2.63 mile undulating single loop close to home) rather than a net downhill with a following wind.
Hoping for my second 70%+ this weekend. I'm old enough to "only" need a 53 minute 10k, but also aware from experience that I'm well capable of failing to achieve that time.

Mr Fetch has very kindly added a WAVA column to the Race Predictor in the calculators tab. I find the predictor to be fairly accurate, particularly for shorter races - marathons become a bit of a lottery.
70% WAVA for 5k as a 55 year old is 21:55, which seems quite reasonable. The calculator predicts a HM time of 1:40:45, which also sounds reasonable, But that only gives a WAVA of 67.6%, so it is easier to do a 70% 5k than HM
Working the other way round, a HM WAVA of 70% 1:37:18 is more challenging, and the calculator gives that a 5k prediction of 21:10, with a WAVA of 71.6%.
Are you still following? Is it just my age that makes longer races harder to achieve 70%, or is this common across ages?

I think that works across all ages? It's true for me anyway! My highest ever WAVA was for a mile race...
