Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Hi Kieren. I would imagine the mileage in those is probably around the 1,000 mark. I've done just over 1,800 miles in total since I got them, and I would guess they see at least half of my mileage.

You've made two interesting observations and I, unfortunately, lack the knowledge to appreciate them.

Would you mind giving me an idiots guide to what you see in the wear of those shoes. I'd be genuinely interested to know.

Hi Paul, I don't know much - just wild speculation when I read up about niggles I have had. So take whats I guess next with a huge pinch of salt. Also is something is not troubling you, no point over analysing or changing gait :)

The increased wear on the outer edge of the right shoe indicates that is scraping the ground more than any other part of that shoe and the wear is not mirrored on your left shoe (right shoe in picture).

So maybe you are mostly road running with the flow of traffic and a camber in the road makes that leg catch the ground first or....

Maybe your right leg swings in towards a centre line more than your left leg. So for example, if running along a painted line your left leg might land under hip and outside the line, right leg might swing in and land on the line (rather than landing under your hip.

That movement is natural but can put more pressure on that foot to transition in foot roll from the outside of the foot, rolling forward, pronating to the ball of the foot. That bigger range of movement can be supporting foot muscles work a bit harder. For example landing more under hip, the outside to inside pronation still happens but with a tighter range of motion.

I've noticed my right leg does this, which is why it is on my mind. I had a short burst of knee pane caused by my ITB rubbing there. In my case, my hip mobility is poor (from sitting all day) and my side glute is weak. I've been working on flexibility and landing with a slightly wider stance. That stops my knee caving inwards and stops the ITB issue.

------

The next guess is quite a bit of a leap as there is hardly any wear but the left shoe (with less wear) has seemingly more wear around the big toe / ball of the foot. Perhaps if it is not making such a wide transition from outside of the foot, to the inside (pronating) it is ready sooner for you to push off from it with a bit more power and a slight twist.

Wear on the heels is similar on both so I would guess you are a heel striker and / or maybe your knee lift allows feet to skim the ground as they swing through.

Again, a big pinch of salt.

thanks Kieren, yep they certainly are painful!!!, think the shorter the distance the more intense they are, remember doing a 1500 metre track race 20 years ago and it took me 3 weeks to recover !! finished 12th out of 13 with a 4.39!!!

well done on your 5k PB, keep working away, anything is achievable if your mindset is 100 per cent..GL.

Well done, particularly as there was 'traffic'!

If it counts for you, then it counts for the thread :-)
