fPOM - here's an article that I wrote a while back, that does a bit of WAVA explaining: fetcheveryone.com/article/beat-the-rust---stay-classy-with-wava-44 Plus, I don't know if anyone's noticed, but your training entries now have a WAVA score on them (assuming you've chosen M/F and put a DOB in your profile). |

Thanks Fetch, great article!! Also tried out the WAVA tool and reckon a mile is doable. Yeah, have sex/age set and can see teh WAVA score on training...

km Target pace min/km 1 03:18 03:18 1.61 05:49 03:37 2 07:14 03:37 3 11:30 03:50 4 15:21 03:50 5 20:15 04:03 10 42:09 04:13 This is what a 70 looks like for me. Did a track session this morning (800s with 200 recovery) to see where I was, not a million miles away but a few seconds/km is a fair effort when you're already flat out. Good to have a target though, will focus on ticking the mile off first |

I would have said 800 is harder than a mile, it is a lot more anaerobic, than 1 mile, and so much more so than 5k which is almost totally areobic. I reckon you'll get close to 800, but those last few seconds will be very difficult to make up, pacing will be even more important (if not the most important part) than in either 1 mile of 5k, you'll blow chunks out of your arse if you got too quick early in 800.

It depends on your genetics/training, are you someone who performs better at anaerobic or aerobic? It's why the Riegel formula is unreliable at less than a 1 mile because then you are relying on plenty more anaerobic, and depending on your own propensity, you will find it harder or easier. Personally I find it easier (no less painful I add, but if I get 800 wrong, I have to slow, whereas a mile you can stride it out in a world of pain). Riegel says I should be way faster over all other distances given my 800 times.

Yes. Training and genetics. Given most people on here are looking at 5k or above...tbeirctraining should be based on that, I.e very little anaerobic training, mostmpeople o here will find 800 harder.

Yeah, great work Gymfreak. Great explanation guys. I don't like running uncomfortable so my efforts are still 'talkable', guess I need to learn to be more uncomfortable. Couldn't touch the 1k time, 5 and 10 may be my best best but I'll have a go at the mile, searching a flat (slightly downhill) 1 miles stretch with no road crossings |

Nice one GF. She's back! funky - I always think of WAVA as being a measure for racing, not training. So it would be completely flat out fastest you can possibly do on the day. Definitely uncomfortable. If you are training at X % WAVA, you should be racing significantly above that!! Nice! G |
