Apologies, Ian. I did indeed miss that. It would appear that in the period between November and March I've learned how to run slowly for extended periods, which at this time in the year is useful in limited ways if at all.

Hendo, it's back to the same old thing. You probably benefitted (as did I) in the early days from more structure and better general aerobic conditioning due to getting more running done. There is a limit though and there has to come a point where moste people (at different times, we are all different remember) will need to practice varying pace and intensity in order to improve. :-)

It is good base building Greg. I enjoy splitting my runs into varied intensity these days. Sometimes though I do one comfortable pace (not massively slow) :-)

Gobi - yes, and that point will surely come if one runs them too fast to be able to train the next day or one pulls a muscle! It is also conceivable that if I can run 5 x 1k at 4:20 off 60 sec recoveries, had I done a 5k time trial that day instead, I might have been capable of 22:00 rather than 23:20.

IanM - I wasn't accusing you of telling anyone to run TOO slowly!

Agreed Ian, totally, as you know!

Was just playing devils advocate because to make generalisations such as that, in my humble, can be a bit misleading!

I think there is too much emphasis in the first few years of a person's running "career" on running fast a lot of the time. Even sheds need foundations...

Even sheds needs foundations.

That is the best piece of training advice I've heard in a while. PMSL :-)

train for distance first then speed it says in The Lore. I agree with that view to be honest. That doesn't mean other approaches don' t work but I didn't use other approaches.

Apologies also if i seemed to be on the wrong end of many sticks. The conclusion is we can all run faster if we train smarter and harder.

Oh and Gobi isn't partial to "Gobes, Gobsey, or Muriel"
