Ooh, that sounds nasty! A few years ago I managed to run into a freezing flowing stream to the disbelief of my husband - the sun on in made it look solid. Very cold feet for the rest of the run!

Hi all, haven't dropped in for some time although I have been lurking 😀
2019 I struggled with injuries, 2020 on top of the obvious, it's been a difficult year personally with my mum passing away at the end of July. I've been working from home since the start of the first lock down in March so have found it quite tough going mentally. I've really relied on my running to keep me sane and have done a few virtual running challenges, one of which I managed to raise about £1,200 for Alzheimer's research.
I hit my 500 mile target last week and am now pushing on to hit 555 by the end of the year. One of my targets for this year was to run a sub 2 hr half again. I don't think I'll get this done but am hoping to at least manage to build up to the half distance ready for an attempt early next year 😀

Well done on hitting 500 miles SVrunner!
Sorry to hear about your mum and how tough it’s all been. Hopefully 2021 will show some improvements for all of us.

I’m on 543 miles. I’m likely to get a few more in the bag before the end of the year but it’s not easy at the moment so it won’t be the higher mileage I was managing over the last few months.

Ouch Red, hope you are ok?

I once ran through a puddle after a night out it was absolutely hammering down, puddle covered a huge hole which I promptly fell through, trashed my knees, boots and new rather expensive jumper. I did avoid puddles for a long time after.

So very sorry to hear about your mum SVrunner that must be so tough especially with this years restrictions. Huge well done on the fund raising and hitting your target early.

I bet little man is making the loss of miles worth it Pen, how is he doing?

I had a stretch target of 1000 after a good year running (nothing much else doing) but I am slightly behind after covid and now a tattoo, so rather than push and stress I've said I'm happy with whatever but its still in reach. We'll see.

A few bruises and scratches GC but nothing worse.

Whatever your final total is make sure the it’s a whole figure. No fractions of km or miles permitted! 😂

SV, I am sorry to hear of your mum's passing only a few months ago, and I know that is likely to affect your Christmas this year. (My mum passed away October last year with pancreatic cancer, just a few months short of her 100th birthday. She also had Alzheimer's.) I know that such a bereavement affects different people in different ways. We'll remember you during the next few weeks, especially. However, well done for your wonderful fund raising.

PenW, well done on passing 500. I'm sure you'll reach 550 at least

GG, on the subject of targets, I'm sure you can get to 1000 miles. Go get it, girl!

Thanks for your kind words. She had vascular dementia and had had a stroke. It was horrible watching her deteriorate over the course of 6 years, not only that but the effect it had on my dad. Covid made it such a horrible end to her life, but I know this is something which has been repeated countless times around the country this year. Yes, we are not looking forward to Christmas, but we are having a quite one and it's only a couple of days so will soon be over.

PenW, I've been trying to catch you up in the league table 😀 Another 15 miles should see you safely stay ahead of me 😂

GG, 1000 miles, it's got to be done, good luck

Evangel, sorry to hear that your mum had Alzheimer's, such a cruel disease. So sad she didn't quite make it to see the big 100.

Well done Geordiemum on reaching 500mls. with nearly a week to spare.

GG, you've worked hard to get where you are today. You can coast gently to the 1000 now. Well done on getting your red star too!

I reached my targets on Wednesday, and now I have retired from running - until next year!

Well done on a fabulous running year just shows what can happen when you avoid injury & illness long May it continue.

And yes after thinking it wouldn’t happen it barring a major disaster it will be reached & maybe exceeded slightly. What is tbe red star? Been here all these years & still don’t know things 😂

About This Thread

*EDIT* in the current situation we are not entering races but I think we can still log any plans we may have over the coming months, whether it is learning a new skill, ticking jobs off a list, moving house(!), doing alternative exercise, aiming for training hours instead of miles, writing to family & friends, finding inventive ways to be together virtually or even entering virus races please fill in the planner and I’ll update this thread and keep our little social group going to share our goals.

Everyone is welcome, whether you don't want to set an official target or you may be aiming further but still want to pop by for a chat/offer some words of wisdom or just because the door is always open and kettle is on.

If you update the race planner after I've updated the header drop me an fmail or a reminder (or 2) on the thread so I know to update. Thanks
