Could be the blood rushing to my head Ev. I actually think it’s consistently (a luxury I’ve never had for this length of time) and largely it cannot be coincidence that the last time I achieved a 28.27 I was doing strength training with Julia Buckley. Different programmes but same whole body conditioning.

It is 8 years since my last 28m 5k I never believed with everything I’d ever get that number again. Maybe a 28.15 by end of June??

I’m just back from my first run in just over two months. I ventured out just after 5am and did 3.3 miles, which I guess I can put forward as a virtual parkrun. I saw two people, and came no closer than four metres as we passed.
It was so good to get out for a run.
I’m still shielding, but felt that it would be safe enough at this time of day, and my route gives me plenty of opportunity to avoid anyone else.
This won’t be a regular thing, but it was a tonic.

Well done Red, I’m supposed to be shielding too but have been out running most days recently. I’m lucky enough to live in a very rural location so it’s very easy to avoid other people whilst I’m out. I honestly believe that the positive impact it has on my mental health is worth venturing out for. Work is very stressful at the moment, with endless video meetings and lots of pressure to reach targets despite the current economic reality, so without my running I seriously think I would be struggling more mentally. I’ve been feeling quite down anyway (I’m usually a very positive person) so I’m very thankful that I’ve got my running to help push back against the demons.

Good to see you have been out Red and also you SB. If you can avoid people you will be safe enough and any touching of surfaces extra 20sec hand washing.

Last few time’s I’ve been out I’ve barely seen a soul, noticeable decline since the shift to relax rules. Maybe now you can see other people exercise isn’t as necessary. Our 3m walk over the fells yesterday we didn’t pass a soul until we got to the picnic area where there was a few people all sensibly socially distanced.

Oh and I’ve entered a virtual 3k relay race for my running club, goodness knows how this will work but you know it’s keeping me focused and then a virtual Blaydon Race. Hopefully a one off!

Unless you are running alongside someone, I find the social distancing rules rather strange. After all, I don't intend to be anywhere near someone I pass for more than a split second, let alone fifteen minutes, and I certainly won't be touching them.

I will run in the road if they appear to be an older person. Giving another runner coming in the opposite direction and extra-wide berth does seem a bit excessive.

About This Thread

*EDIT* in the current situation we are not entering races but I think we can still log any plans we may have over the coming months, whether it is learning a new skill, ticking jobs off a list, moving house(!), doing alternative exercise, aiming for training hours instead of miles, writing to family & friends, finding inventive ways to be together virtually or even entering virus races please fill in the planner and I’ll update this thread and keep our little social group going to share our goals.

Everyone is welcome, whether you don't want to set an official target or you may be aiming further but still want to pop by for a chat/offer some words of wisdom or just because the door is always open and kettle is on.

(When you go in give yourself a colour so I know you're wanting to be on the sheet so I can keep it tidy)

If you update the race planner after I've updated the header drop me an fmail or a reminder (or 2) on the thread so I know to update. Thanks
