Like a wannabe McGoohan, I listened to Lana Del Rey and Boygenius while decorating this afternoon. I have to say, given the widespread love on this thread, I was underwhelmed. I found it very dull. The LDR was okay, but sit make me stop and pay attention. I also listened to a 2022 album by a female band named Peaness which I enjoyed. It’s called World Full Of Worry. |

I've just listened to boygenius, it reminded me of First Aid Kit in places. A nice listen but not one I'll definitely get on CD just yet.

I liked all three of them but TBH Peaness were my favourites of the 3, thanks Dio for the heads up, made my hunt for new music easy for today. |

I seem to have been listening to a lot of female fronted grungy indie-rock the last couple of weeks! Gretel Hamlyn is still high on the playlist, and saw her in Bristol on easter Saturday, she (and the band) were great live. And new albums this week by Wednesday ("Rat Saw God") and Blondshell (self titled) are both pretty good too. Wednesday seem to pair their occasionally screamey shoegazey rock with a country guitar twang, I'm not sure that should work but they seem to get away with it. It's Stereogum's album of the week (see https://www.stereogum.com/2218236/wednesday-rat-saw-god/reviews/album-of-the-week/?utm_source=Stereogum&utm_campaign=df7928fb9f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_06_11_07_32_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_5d9c816fab-df7928fb9f-360602204&mc_cid=df7928fb9f&mc_eid=642a9be8bc) Blondshell is perhaps a little more pop and folk influenced, plenty of detailed relationship confessionals going on, and "Joiner" is just a fabulous pop song. Struggling with boygenius - I have solo albums by all three members, and all of them I admire rather than love, and I kinda feel the same about this album. It'll clearly be a huge hit with the critics and the end of year best of polls...but while there's a couple of standout tracks it tends to wash over me a little bit. |

Happy album release day x A few I'm looking at are Patrick Wolf, I adored his early output, Angel Olsen and The tallest man on earth. What are you all looking forward to? |
