New Holiday Ghosts sounds nicely ramshackle VU/Jonathan Richman. Off to see them tomorrow.

Felt rubbish on Saturday night.... almost didn't go to the gig... But I did. First two support bands were garbage, but fortunately Holiday Ghosts were ace. Tunes from new lp in particular shone "Vulture" (imagine early REM covering Billy Idol's white wedding and then forgetting the rest of the song after the opening bassline and making it up) which they opened with and "B Truck", plenty of old faves like "Mr Morandi" too. Most get round to reviewing "Absolute Reality" lp. (also it's not far removed from new lps by Aussie bands Terry and Partner Look, probably better than both tho). Meanwhile my current must listen is the Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer & Shahzad Ismaily "Love in exile", close to lp of the year. |

New album day. Already got "First Two pages of Frankenstein" by The National on :). Anybody spotted any other new ones they fancy this week? |

Angus McSix. I think that was last week. An acquired taste. |

I'm with ElDuderino and majoring on The National today. Pretty much my fave band of the last 20 years or so, even if I go back to Alligator and Boxer a lot more than the last couple of albums. Liking this one so far!

Bill Orcutt - "Jump on it" is out today, solo guitar, he started off in avant noise rockers Harry Pussy, these days he's firmly in the "American primitive" camp, solo finger picked guitar with flourishes from his noise days. Beautiful and often incandescent stuff.

Yes Joe1970, I am liking it a lot so far also. Not sure what i'm thinking of Taylor Swift being on track 7.. |
