New Robert Forster isn't great - too much strummy faux C&W/blues-ish/Dylanish numbers for my liking. Not enough Go Betweens songsmithery.
The new Kali Malone three hours drone is an absolute monolith. Sometimes it irritates the hell out of me, sometimes it creates a perfect meditational space, whichever way it makes the air heavier.
Rozi Plain was great live btw.

That's a fair list Chris, but I have to say only heard of one of them, Sofie Birch.

Saw James Yorkston, Nina Persson and Second Hand Orchestra at Jazz Cafe last night. Brilliant gig - as good as the album is, the songs were fuller, more alive and upbeat. There were even some sax and guitar solos.

I did my first listen of The Big Smile today and really enjoyed it. I won't review until I've heard it 3 times, as per my rulz.

Also listened to Hamish Hawk. I liked it because it is the sort of thing I like, and this was also my first problem with it. I felt convinced he must’ve previously been in a band I was familiar with, but that turns out not to be the case. He doesn’t even have a Wikipedia entry. No one track stood out on first listen, but I did like the lyrics. My second problem is that I keep wanting to say Hudson Hawk.

I just had a quick listen and thought 'he sounds a bit Smiths-y' and then I see one of the top YouTube results is him covering 'Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want'

This thread is really useful. I do like Money, the single by Hamish Hawk that 6 Music are playing a lot. Didn't think I had ever heard him before but just looked on Spotify and found out it was him who did 'The Mauritian Badminton Doubles Champion, 1973' that I loved last year. Must check out the albums.
