Dio - The Hamish Hawk album is produced by Rod Jones of Idlewild and I would say there is a touch of Idlewilds mid career stuff in there (not the vocals but the music.)

Blimey too many things to get through also, currently loving songs by the following (will I get around to listening to whole lps - that's the question): Sofie Birch & Antonina Nowacka Silvia Tarozzi & Deborah Walker Warrington Runcorn New town Development Plan Halo Maud Laure Briard Oddisee Horse Lords Persher Nathan Salsburg Andrew Wasylyk Cheri Knight Seljuk Rustum Tim Hecker Jana Horn Holiday Ghosts (they're from Falmouth wooo a Cornish music scene!)

Holiday Ghosts are brilliant, but long since departed for Brighton.

There is a brilliant music scene in Brighton Dio, and has been for many a year. That is despite the footy team.

New EP from Django Django today on my way to Asda - they seem to have gone all in with guest vocalists including Self Esteem (who seemed ace on Richard Osman's House of Games, but her music doesn't hit the spot for me).

On the basis of this I'm not getting excited for their new upcoming album.

Lol - yep I know Joopsy, but it's like R.E.M. quit Athens Georgia not that long after they made their breakthrough, but will always be known as an Athens Georgia band, and closer to home Broadcast quit Birmingham to move to Hungerford but were a quintessential Birmingham band. My uncle moved from Bristol before he was 10 but always maintained that's where he was from.

(also see Aphex Twin who hasn't been seen near Cornwall for decades, but is a "Cornish musician")

I was being slightly flippant, but actually there's quite a good article about local cultures spawning bands (with inevitably R.E.M. being the example):

About This Thread

Maintained by McGoohan
As a spin-off from Joopsy's excellent Albums of 2022 thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/albums-of-2022-62537/ this is a new thread where we commit to listen to one new album a week in 2023. Allowing a couple of weeks off for life commitments etc, that's 50 albums in the year.
EDIT - new and improved (i.e. exactly the same) for 2024
