Thanks SailorSteve! What a good run you had on 15th--I like that marathon time! Well...I ran 0.4 miles on the treadmill yesterday under the watchful eye of my physio and I'm pain free at last. Ran (ok..jogged!) a half mile in total on grass this morning which has set me up well to slowly build up to something again. I'm 1,999 miles thereabouts from the target!! |

Cheers torey and well done you. Welcome back, 0.4 will do just fine. Patience is your friend, although not always the easiest to get along with.

Yay Torey, excellent news your comeback starts here. I'm sure in a few years time you'll be putting plenty of us to shame with your mileage.

Over a mile on the treadmill today. Fingers crossed and hip willing(!) I'm hoping to be doing something decent mileage wise within a year! Thanks everyone for the wise words. |

done a total of 8 miles this month! And one run of just over tow miles on the treadmill. Hope to be out on grass within a week; heck, running for just a mile felt hard after all these months off since September!

Great to here the comeback is starting torey I've run a total of two times in the last three weeks since my marathon. Not an issue targetwise as I have plenty in the bank, as long as I do actually start running again sometime... |

Thanks folks! It will be a sensible comeback--I've given up my Snowdon Marathon place in October, a bit too soon to be doing inclines and declines like that. Got my eyes on something though!

Almost to the end of the first third of the year - let’s have a look at the thread stats for the end of April : We now have 40 runners (41 last month) with a declared target of 2000 miles for 2019. Of these 40 runners, 24 are on or above target as of this morning, so 60% - very comparable with last month, but dropping 6.5% If we keep the same measures as last month I.e. +20%, -20% and in-between, we get the following numbers : 13 (32.5%), 8 (20%), and 19 (47.5%) (c.f. March’s 44%, 22%, and 34%) So a consolidation in the in-betweenies, and a marked drop in those streaking ahead. Is this the fabled spring marathon effect, or are the months of over-reaching starting to take their toll? I know I had to chuck a fair few miles away from the plan this month, mostly due to getting back to training too quickly after Marchs’ target race, ending up tired and achy. For symmetry fans, we can look at +/-40% and the in-betweenies for a satisfying 12.5%, 12.5% and 75%. Ahh, calming Outliers…. At the end of March we had 6 runners at more than 50% up on target, which has dropped to just 2 this month - we must have finally passed peak marathon training, and a well deserved rest is being enjoyed? Congrats to our first two runners to pass the 1000 miles for the year - you do realise it’s not June yet? And there are still 2 (5%) more than 50% behind target after the fourth month, I hope the injuries etc. clear soon and you can get back to it. We had a host of target races this month: StuH SDW 50 (50m) 6/4 paul0 Machester Marathon 7/4 <2:55 SteveCRunner Brighton Marathon 14/4 HoD Boston Marathon UK 14/4 SailorSteve Boston Marathon 15/4 chunkywizard Maidenhead Easter 10 19/4 zp Highland Fling 27/4 Chrisull Shakespeare Marathon 28/4 <3:20 From a little gentle stalking it would seem congrats go to StuH, SteveCRunner, SailorSteve and chunkywizard for successful completion, commiserations to Chrisull for narrowly missing his target again (at least you set one?). It would seem HOD has defected to the 1500 thread (splitter!) - and missed his target race, and zp appears to have skipped the Highland Fling to concentrate on training - throwing down an impressive 250 miles for the month. Last and by no means least we have paul0, with his exceptionally speedy 2:49 and change run at Manchester - looks like the high volume approach worked wonders. A five minute pb (?) when you’re already super speedy is not to be underestimated. (not sure that’ll work….) And even laster, but by no means leastier a welcome return to training for torey following a much delayed hip replacement. I don’t expect to see you marching up the mileage table any time soon, but it must be good to be making progress. If you want a good read check out torey’s blog on the TP100 and M2M fetcheveryone.com/blog/48356 Next month, hopefully, we’ll have a comparable set of numbers, and the result of some more of those target races - I say target races… Looks like it’s just me next month… No one racing in May? Well done all, sometimes just getting out the door can be a challenge so good on you for getting that far (and often much further). It's still early days yet, so for those behind target there's no rush, you have 8 months (half of them warmer, with longer days) to catch up. For those streaking ahead, hope you are enjoying it - remember rest/recovery is where the adaption happens. If you'd like to see any other stats at the end of each month, or even no stats at all, then post about it below. Stay tuned and best of luck! |
