Excellent statistcal readout as ever oumaumau!
Thanks for the mention, and you're absolutely right it was a big pb and a reward from the high volume approach.
As you say plenty of time to go on the mileage target. Keep chipping it away all!

Lovely round up! In May I am running:
Shinfield 10K - 6th May - planning a flat out assault in VF4s, hoping for 40:xx Marlow 5 - 12th May - will my legs be recovered from Shinfield? Never done a 5mile on the road so will go for it and see if I can beat my best (Endure24 lap!) Binfield 10K - 19th May. bit hilly, but will be aiming against best time there, 40:xx is a bit of a stretch but maybe possible.
Should be able to just about maintain the mileage to keep to target even with the races I'm hoping.

No worries guys, all part of the service
paul0 - I was guessing the pb was due to increased volume (I didn't actually check). What was the quality/volume split like in your training? And the volume increase over 2:55 training?
cw - are they all target races? Have stuck them in the header anyway - you can certainly pack a month full

Are they target? Depends on what a target race is! I guess Shinfield is the most important, i will be doing a mini taper for that but I don’t think I’m in sub 40 shape yet. Marlow 5 is sort of target, but with Shinfield first I don’t know what shape my legs will be in. Binfield is the least important but I’m still going to go for it and see where I end up. I guess my real target is the second Yateley 10K where I am hoping all this racing with prepare me for a all out sub 40 attempt.

I don't think there is a clear definition for target races either - just trying not to replicate the race portfolio over there >>> ;).
Best of luck with them all! Yateley was my pb course, until I ran Stubbington Green one year - it's surprisingly quick for a lumpy course (Yateley that is)

I've just checked the 16weeks pre race, and it was a move up to avg 62mpw, from previously 55mpw for previous pb. Which I must admit is a much smaller increase than I thought.
The quality/volume split was about 90-95% volume. The only quality I did was a parkrun at the end of my long-run each week, and 1 tempo 10k each week.

Interesting paul0, though I suppose there is also the cumulative effect of years of training behind that - not just the previous 16 weeks - to build on with the recent campaign. Were the peak weeks any higher than previous?

CW - see you at Marlow and the Yateleys. I’ve signed up to all 3 to give me something to focus on over the summer. I hate the course but will look for improvements across the summer.
Uh, those hills at Binfield!!
That said, I think I need to get in to another mara this year. I love marathon trading and the whole process and already missing it after VLM I’m sunday!

Good round up of the year so far oumaumau..thanks! It's great to watch everyone's progress and achievements even if I won't be up there anywhere near the big miles ...for a while! Month by month I will be progressing....oh, did 1.8 miles today!!
