Looks like everyone has been doing some good running, a good start to August. I was out on Saturday and did just under 8.5 including Parkrun. It was very warm and easy paced. Anyway, I am full of the cold and the wee man has chicken pox, his poor face is covered in spots. I'm stuck at home with him. Hoping we are both better for next week, I'm on annual leave and it will be my birthday too. |

You could always try the Farmer's Walk for strength LL! Works well for hs. I personally find all the additional suggestions advertised for strength, flexibility, mental tenacity almost impossible to add to what goes on in daily life. Goodness knows how those who haven't retired can fit it all in when really they just want to run. The guys I know who do ultras regularly also own/ run a local gym and one is also an NHS physiotherapist so they have all under one roof as part of their day. I have to applaud everyone else who tries to fit everything into their schedules whilst working ordinarily . Good run for you last Saturday Lesley but I hope you and the wee man aren't too unwell and get better quickly. 2.2 in heavy morning rain was.. ok! |

Well done GG and Lesley. I'm sorry to hear that you have a heavy cold Lesley, and that the wee man has chicken pox. I hope that you both get well soon. I agree with you Steve about all the additional activities, presumably to improve fitness, speed etc. I can understand the necessity for the elites, as it is "a full time job" for them, but not for the average club or social/fun runners. Well done for your 2.2 miles this morning in heavy rain. We finished this mornings session before the rain started. It was 5 x 1k with 2.5 minutes recoveries on grass, with the Wednesday Crew. |

It is a very good point about doing additional exercises as I do struggle to fit it in with my crazy life, but I know when Julia has set off a new programme and I commit to it the benefits are noticeable. During lockdown work was very good at telling us to take a break and do things, obviously we were only allowed out once per day (we were eternally grateful for having a dog as we were allowed to walk her on top of our daily exercise) and Julia did a 1/2hr at 8am every day I did it everyday along with my runs. I lost so much weight, toned up and felt the best I’ve ever been. I had then upped my focus to training for an ultra which was a big increase too. I’d rather run as it gives my brain change to switch off or to work through a problem where as a workout doesn’t as you have to concentrate but I have to say I’m really enjoying them. They ones I’m doing are 1/2hr and I can confess here I go downstairs and do it during my working day I feel so much better (& if I’m in the office I can waste way more than 30min chatting to colleagues) and I am ready to work again. I do more than enough hours and even adding that 30m at end of the working day is no problem whereas at 6.30 going to do the workout my brain would be frazzled. It’s working for me so as long as I don’t get into trouble from work (which I’d defend on travelling time alone) I intend to keep going. |

Been a busy couple of days, no time to reply individually but well done and get well soon where applicable. In other news I went out in the rain this morning and ran 5.2 miles. In the end it was only showers but still, I actually left the house knowing it was raining 😂😂 |

geordiegirlIt would be nice to be able to edit posts. Thanks for strength advice. Get well soon Lesley and hope the wee man not too bad with the CP. I postponed my longer run today because of the severe storm warnings and they didn’t materialise. |
