My first run of the year too, the thought of this target helped peel me off the sofa and get out the door. A bit sluggish but reminded me what I like about running Many more to come I hope.

Gotta be blue
Good luck to anyone in the South heading out into that godawful weather in search of more miles for that 1000 target! Flippers may be more useful than trainers.

Wasnt going to join the group this year as 2 years running ive failed miserably ue to injury, just over 500 miles last year due to chronic compartmental syndrome, but had an operation in november and yesterday began the first step of my comeback with a 2.5 mile slow and gentle run.
I may miss the target yet again but at least i'll have something to aim for and hopefully keep me going.

I think any mileage done today should count double. Which would bring me up to target

Given the current weather in west of scotland I totally agree with your sentiments velociraptor ... Don't think we'll get away with it though so a treadmill run for me later !

Scotland seems to be getting it even worse than we are just a few miles across the border. I asked the receptionist to call the coastguard if I wasn't back by a certain time, expecting to grind out three miles comfortably within that time. Thought I'd have to cut it short to avoid wasting the emergency services' time.

I think you are right Velociraptor. I've got a "phased" target approach, where I expect my daily mileage to be more or less in proportion to daylight hours and temperature throughout the year. Maybe I could factor in wind velocity. How about this as a formula:
D = D x D / D / D / c x ΔG
where D = Daily mileage, D = Daytime temperature, D = Depth of rainfall, D = Dynamic wind velocity, c = speed of light, and ΔC = Caterpillar coefficient of free energy

Happy new year, everyone. My first post on this lovely website for...ages. Got my swanky new shoes on tonight for a second run of 2012. So that'll be 11 down, 989 to go. The trick for me, I'm thinking, is staying injury-free.

I'm ahead of target for the first time in two years. Look on my work ye mighty and despair.
