I started running in August 2006 with the aim of losing weight and increasing my general health and well-being. For most of my 50+ years I've been stunningly slothful, but despite this unpromising background surprised myself (and my family, I suspect) by making progress. After nearly a year of regular running both outdoors and in (the treadmill may not be the best, but it's better than nothing and fits around family and work commitments) I entered my first road race.
