Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Notes & Comments

47th Leipzig marathon, another hard fought sub 3:30

A quick overview over the train wreck that this was:
I felt my calves tightening from mile 4 onwards on the first hill. This is where I had to let my running buddy go and focus on damage limitation. I was still on course for a PB at halfway but the second pass of the hill did a number on my calves and by then, the altered gait caused some issues further up. At 28k, two thirds in, I wasn't sure if I could even finish and the 3:30 pacers overtaking me was a low point, I was quite demoralised by then. I just told myself: run the mile you're in, don't worry about the rest. By 32k, I felt a bit better and could resume more normal running but it hurt like hell. I suffered from mile 4 but I didn't give up. I'm really proud of getting a sub 3:30 today. It's the one I probably had to work for the hardest and suffer the longest.

I tried to distract my mind by reacting to the spectators who were out there in droves and they lifted my spirits a bit. Also, the motivating messages on my bottles were great, I held on to the last one until the finish 💚🍾

Terrific running Tipsku, shame about 24-30k but you finished strong, well done. I hope all is well.

Great running, I hope you are happy? Looking forward to hear all about it!

Thank you 😊 I'll blog about it later. I'll just add a short commentary to the session.

very well done, physically and mentally! 👍
... and congrats on sub 3:30! that's impresssiv! 🥇😃

Tough day! Well done on finishing; it's sometimes a difficult call as to whether to get it done or quit and go again. And another sub-3:30 :)
auburnette
Well done to fight for the sub 3:30 when things went awry. You rallied magnificently! 4:31 pace per k at the end. Disappointed for you as you have the fitness for much more, but hugely impressed by the grit and the fight at the end!
Mark J 🇳🇿
Mental toughness is a great attribute. You appear to have that by the bucket load. Well done for digging in and starting the course for the sun 3:30
tipsku
Thank you 😊 I was a bit disappointed at first but very proud of my attitude during the second half.

If it hadn't been for the hills, I would have been okay. My friend who saw me at 3 miles already thought that I didn't look as strong and smooth as I normally would. He's seen me run a lot so he knew very early on, that something wasn't right. I knew a mile later. I'll sit on this a bit until I blog about it. I'm also going to get a few photos tomorrow to go with it
RiceandPeas
What a magnificent achievement, that sounds like a very tough day out but you were the toughest!
riggys99
Well done on toughing it out. Hope you find some answers to what happening in the early miles. Congrats on another sub 3:30
