I think I've peaked about 500w on the turbo and maybe 150-200w more on the road. However I've also discovered I have next to no capacity for producing torque, and need to hit very high cadences to produce power. If my cadence is under 100rpm in a group situation and someone accelerates, I'm going out the back, because I can't bring the power up fast enough! |

Interesting. The FTP session I did last night focused on a 105 cadence, but unless I'm very much mistaken I'm more efficient at around 92-95, I can definitely hold a given wattage for longer by going up a gear and dropping the cadence a tad.

What I didn't say there is it just goes to show you how subjective this is. Maybe it's because I'm just an old git and don't have any fast twitch left to speak of.

Purely steady state, I think I'm most comfortable at mid to high 90s, but in a group setting I need to be able to cope with subtle pace changes. I found it interesting when I looked at the equivalent metric running. At a comfortably fast pace, I was doing tending to195spm, which is very much on the fast side. My legs naturally want to move fast but with producing very little force. |

I seem to settle into a 55-65 rate although i can push that to 70-75 when climbing on Zwift but thats sort of the base least energy use state which is matching my longer distance running at a slowish pace.

Makes sense @Northern Exile I have a wattbike and my numbers are similar inside and out I can happily ride at 110 cadence even 120 over 130 and I get bouncy. Due to doing cx I've had to work on torque which is still ongoing even after 11 years of racing. Running - jog around 170 but race a 5km and it's about 200 @MudMeanderer |

I've never paid much attention to my cadence. I generally sit between 85 and 90 and that has probably come down a little over years as I have become a stronger on the bike. I will be paying attention to my pedal stroke from now on though as I had a lot of knee pain. |

Between 92 to 95 is good for me. I've managed to crack 600W on my own when aiming for the Zwift badge, but in race situations, 400W is all I can manage. I can hold up 300s, low 400s for 30 seconds in a sprint, but not really any longer. I have to be slightly lower in cadence wise to get that sustained power eg 85, as generally I'm standing up (but I can do it from sitting).
