Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The thread started in 2012 when Raffo and I brought Jess home. I was used to dogs but not puppies - whole new ball game. Hence 'Support thread for owners of puppies.' Stands to reason that all the 'original' Fetch pups are now old ladies and gents.

Think I've already mentioned that Jess' original hour and half-ish morning walk has been whittled down to an hour and sometimes she digs her paws in and says 'NO. No further, THIS way home.' It's easier to trick her if we go somewhere in the car - not far but away from the house. I'm car-less at the moment so although we managed 59 minutes yesterday (all hail the mighty Garmin) this morning we only had a very reluctant 35 minutes. SIGH.

There is nothing wrong with her. Get back to the house and she's almost immediately barking at the back door claiming cat scaring duty is crucial. Open the door and she charges up the deep stone stairs - all eight of them - not much more slowly than she ever did. I have noticed slightly less agility though - she staggers around for a step or three when she gets up from sleeping these days.

I suppose it likely she has a touch of arthritis -as I suppose I must have somewhere - but no medical intervention yet. Fingers and paws crossed all round.

She's eleven, like Flossie. They were born within weeks, if not days of each other.

These posts on German Shepherd Dogs brought to mind the bewilderment of a GSD on Crosby beach today, when its human threw a treasured branch over the prom and into the dunes. With a little direction, the dog found a way over the prom and was casting about in the marram grass for his prize. :)

So sorry to read this AtC and MM. The original thread dogs and those that joined later are all so precious to us, and I think that's the way it should be. But it's sad to think ahead.

Mr has just returned from a 'walk' with Jet (they drove to a layby at the country park) and said that Jet didn't make the jump back into the car boot. It's the second jump that he's missed in a week so we will now have to make a point of lift him in and out. Luckily he's only 11kg.

It’s so hard when they start to show signs of aging. Stevie was really unsettled this morning after our first night back after our holidays. He seems to find the transition between places quite upsetting now.

Thankfully Marvin seems to have got his appetite back now and his tummy seems to be settling. Still need to get him checked over as his front right leg gave away a few times tonight. Helengat we have to lift him into the car all the time now.

Winniefree he also seems very unsettled when we get back from holidays too

Glad Marvin is a bit better now.

I've just looked up some information from the Royal Veterinary College about Jet's breed and he has already exceeded the average lifespan for a male cocker spaniel. He had a check up last week; the vet was gentle with him and didn't find anything obviously wrong. We have to go back in around 10 days for his vaccinations and they will do a blood test for kidney function. He was due to have a minor op to remove a lump, but Mr and I are now wondering whether it is in his best interests to have a GA. We'll double check after the blood test.

Hugs Alice and Mandy - glad Marvin is on the mend and hope Charlie is soon.

Biscuit seems OK. No obvious bruising.
