Its not really a good time to get a dog is it? All the really essential socialising wont be possible.

Exactly! And the dog will get used to what it believes is normal life and then may find actually it is very different. I cannot see how it will work once they start getting back to normal. It may end up needing to spend a lot of time in kennels or staying with someone - and for various reasons we are unlikely to be able to help very much in that situation.

Maybe they’ve decided that since spending more time in their home they really reeeally like it, and they no longer want to go anywhere?

Probably not. But maybe...

The puppies sound gorgeous but I agree that socialising will be difficult with the current situation.

Not an ideal time to get a dog, unless your lifestyle is based around home life.

Cookie and Phoebe have been struggling. They’re used to us going out, work etc, and with a break halfway can happily do a working day at home. I’m working as normal, but Alix isn’t. We aren’t going out as much, and with the nice weather, they have free access to the garden, they aren’t getting their usual rest. We haven’t walked them today and they’ve hardly stirred. They’ll be getting a short leg stretch soon then hopefully they’ll benefit from the cooler weather tomorrow.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea for socialisation to be at a distance initially and puppies learning to only say hello when told it’s ok.

Interesting to hear how other’s dogs are coping with lockdown. Ernie is loving it. He’s getting 2 decent walks a day plus his usual morning beach visit for ‘business’. He gets to hang out with me all day which basically involves sleeping somewhere in the same room. He’ll be gutted when things return to normal.

Tuss is having a good lockdown. We’re both at home all day and he’s been spending a lot of time with me outdoors . He’s eating really well and sleeping really well

Floss is loving it. We're both more or less around all day anyway, but she's getting a much longer walk with me than she's used to (though from time to time we return to her old haunts and she has to sniff every single blade of grass in the fields, to check on what's been going on in her absence.) The only thing she's not getting is her regular trips to the beach, which she loves. But dogs live in the moment; she'll be very happy to get back down to the seaside but life is good for her right now and that's all that matters to her.

I don’t think life is much different for Rory - I can’t work from home, he’s still going out with his dog walker who lives up the road. He’s not doing much training, his classes are on line but his owner CBA to engage with them (I knew this would happen, that’s why I used to physically take him to as many as possible, so I had to do it.)

Our two seem to be handling it fine - I'm wfh, Mrs TR is only occasionally in at school and our sons are home having been furloughed from their outdoor activity centre, so suddenly there's four of us in the house during the day.

Main issue (and it's only happened twice) is Frankie barking his head off at someone walking by or the squirrel when I've been in a work Skype meeting - once I was able to quickly mute my mic but the other time I was doing the talking!!
