I met my two favourite white GSDs today on my run. They don't understand social distancing and it was so hard not to give them their usual cuddles

Rosehip, poodles and poo crosses have to be groomed to stop their coat matting I'm told.

Ah yes, that's true - poodles were always clipped because they don't shed do they? - I didn't know anyone with a poodle until recently though

I know a few people who clip their spaniels really short, especially in summer.
Do terriers need ‘stripping’? (I’m not sure what that is, but people seem to go on about that vs clipping.)

It's the rise in number of doodles and poos and all the multiple varieties of them that are now available (as D2 has said) and in the case of someone I know who moved 'to the country' and got themselves a dog, every time he goes for a swim in the local muddy pond. Their local groomer must have thought they'd won the lottery when they signed up as clients!!!!

Yup ours is a poo so needs clipped to stop him matting. Being a lover of water and smelly bogs we benefit from the 24hrs of clean dog every few months as well. The rest of the time he is a festering fur ball of doom.

Grew up with airedales, and they need their coat stripping as they don't shed. Stripping is pulling the coat out, rather than just clipping out the top layer, you pull out the wire hair and undercoat.

I've had Jet professionally groomed once in his life. He is 'au naturel' the rest of the time. Lots of people have their spaniels trimmed and they do look smart but I don't see the point of shaving off a winter pelt and then having to put the dog into a coat to go out in the cold.
Jet is currently shedding his winter undercoat and his 'trousers' so we have balls of fur all over the place and combing him through results in handfuls of hair an aggrieved looking dog who then rolls In anything he can find to feel more dog like again. Basically he's a bit of a scruff but seems none the worse for it.

A friend of mine has a spaniel like Jet and she is a hairdresser. She studied a YouTube video on how to clip spaniels and gave him a haircut herself the other day - he looked very smart! I do prefer them au naturel though.
ION, my sister's little black working cocker had a litter of puppies last week (it was planned). It was her first litter and she had 4 black and one golden. They're all sold already, apparently. I'm hoping I can get to see them before they go to their new homes but that's looking less likely every day!

That's lovely news SarahWoo. Some neighbours of us are looking to get a dog. I'm concerned that it's something of a lock down coping measure rather than a genuine wish for one though. They usually travel a huge amount, both in the UK and overseas, go off to look after various grandchildren (all of whom I think already have dogs in their families) and when in the past they have had those family members to stay I don't recall any suggestion of having the dogs stay has made them wish they had their own. Having decided they want a dog though they want one now. I think they also think that any dog they get will automatically get on well with Wanda so we will be able to go for walks together. That may well happen with careful introduction but not necessarily, as Wanda has a history of dog reactivity, although has improved somewhat - I'm really quite concerned about it all.
