I feel that weekly opt-in/opt-out is overengineering it a bit. I already have weekly deadlines with my Fantasy Football team and that is quite enough to keep up with! I like the way the game is just "there" and you can have good weeks and bad weeks. I did suggest earlier the possibility of having a Joker, or an opt-out, which could be played maybe one week in n weeks (10?), but that wasn't supported by any other comments.
As for encouraging banter here, I'm sure some players just prefer to lurk and they shouldn't be dissuaded from taking part for that reason. One hobby website I use has a Secret Santa scheme where you can do anonymous "taunting" of your target. Some participate and love it and some don't and that's the way people are.

I like the idea of a joker. Once every n weeks (8?). Would account for holidays or tapering, but you’d have to think carefully about when to use it.
But tbh I have weeks when I play properly, weeks when I keep track, and weeks when I know I can’t win, and I like that. It’s not like falling way behind like in Fecthpoint where if you don’t play for a week you’re in negative scoring very quickly.

Yes. Joker...I also play in and out...winter soon more ling runs off grid...but also thinking of a local cycle ride for ease of squareage.
