Pam runs
I believe the admin should put a minimum distance per activity to be included in WSW, afterall, this site is meant to be a training site, rather than a walk 0.1 mile, save, change watch to run, run back 0.2 miles, save, change watch to walk and walk back 0.1 mile to the start. 😁

Agreed. 1/2 mile? 1km? More?
Activity dependent? Swimming shouldn't be penalised unduly.

The mile (Mille passus) is Roman, which is still kinda European.
Let's go with a good old Anglo-Saxon Furlong.

It would be interesting to see how many short runs/walks actually impact the scoring. I suspect it is a small minority because the hassle factor of running a short bit, stopping the watch, uploading it, changing to a walk, etc is waaay to much effort for all but the most ardent players. (I admit I did resort to this a bit in my WSW final although I used bigger intervals)

At the end of the day you still have to cover a lot of ground if you want lots of squares. Is there any real difference to running a 5k loop then walking it or breaking the 10k into multiple little runs and walks?

Yes. Start in the middle of a square, walk to the middle of the next square. Stop/save. Restart watch as a run. Run into the middle of the next square. Stop/save. Restart watch as a walk. Walk into the middle…..repeat over 5km
Now you have recorded a walk and run in every square over 5km (except the first and last one), but only covered 5km once.
