My take the dog for a pee round the block is about 0.4m, so I would certainly lose some posession if they didn't count....
Also, I quite often stop my run at 5k, and bag a second activity on the last 0.25m cool down walk back up the hill to home.
Both those things said I still voted for a minimum.
1km seems reasonable, in line with other games.

I’m in the No camp on this one. But a minority, clearly.

FatRaytoSlim has walked 33 miles this week already. Not very much of it is in 0.1m chunks.

Start/stop in the middle of each square would be a no-no for me, But if you have an out & back (eg canal) to bag a square, I'd think it's OK to run up & walk back. Bit of a grey area, and as a noob I'll defer to the more experienced players, so I'm a Meh

I'm torn.
Ultimately, to be the best at any game, you've got to push the tactics to the limit. And there are examples of people doing genuinely short walks that would be impacted by this. It's not what I'd ever expected people to do, and it sounds like it's only a few willing to be bothered to use it as a tactic, in conjunction with a lot of mileage anyway...
I think I'm voting against the proposal.

Not that I have any evidence of this, but an algorithmic check that uploaded training does not run concurrently would be good. E.g. if someone was riding a bicycle with a Garmin computer on it, but jumping off it every 400 yards to do a short run & walk, recorded on their watch, then jump back on the bike and repeat…then they upload the Bike track and the watch tracks. Or worse, they wear 2 watches, one set to walk, one to run. Or 2 watches, and upload the same run on separate days. Hope I’m not giving people ideas how to 'cheat'?

You're also getting into the territory of me chasing my tail for the sake of a few players in a free game. I have a finite amount of time for site development, and this doesn't feel like a priority tbh.

It’s a smallish square - there’s a whole wide world out there, go explore! 😁

Tbh if someone were doing that I really don’t think I’d be bothered - sounds like much too much effort for something that is a game.
If I have enough time I may do an out and back that is run one way and walk the other but I really couldn’t be bothered with the faff of planning with great attention to detail
